A clip from the student Emmy award winning (Pacific Southwest Chapter) short documentary by Stephen Crutchfield.

Vaquero is Spanish for “cowman”. Vaqueros were the first cowboys of the American West, marked by their resourcefulness, love of nature, and skilled horsemanship. “The Last Vaquero” follows saddle maker Garry McClintock as he teaches the dying vaquero tradition of reata making (lasso making) to a young cowboy named Brian. Garry learned reata making from Granny Martin, who practiced vaquero ways in San Diego county until his death in 1991.
