“Cowboy Cauldron has its roots deep in ancient and American history. From an early age, Founder and President of Cowboy Cauldron, Mike Bertelsen, used to sit around the fire, while his grandmother told the myths of Ancient Greece. The Odyssey and The Iliad always included stories with gods, goddesses, fire, food, wine, and revelry. These ancient stories obviously had a strong effect on Mike and to this day he remains a devotee of Prometheus, the Greek God of Fire.

“Founder and President of Cowboy Cauldrons, Mike Bertelsen grew up in the high desert of the American West, where campfires were a part of life. Mike became a nature enthusiast at a young age. Along with fishing and hunting, Mike loved to sit around a big campfire listening to stories. He was one of those kids who just couldn’t keep from poking the fire.

“Jump ahead a few decades and you’ll find Mike in Washington D.C. working as a lobbyist for the mutual fund industry, but living and spending his free time in the woods of Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. In Virginia, Mike learned about colonial crafts and cooking, as well as the art of the blacksmith, once again making fire a huge part of his life.

“This is where the Cowboy Cauldron started. Mike’s goal was to develop a fire pit that would not only function as a fire feature, but could be used as a cooking device, as well. He wanted his fire pit and grill to be portable, provide heat, give an unobstructed view of the fire, and be beautiful enough to draw crowds in a resort environment.

“Mike’s Cauldron fire pit became a huge fixture in the Mount Vernon area and when Mike decided to move to Utah to raise his family, many of his friends requested that he make a few Cauldron fire pits to leave behind. Needless to say, once Mike brought his Cauldron fire pit with him to Utah, it became an overwhelming draw. Friends and family were constantly asking Mike to borrow it for camping trips, tailgating parties, even family reunions. Not wanting to have to haul his Cauldron all over the place for the rest of his life, Mike decided to make two more, only this time, he improved upon his original design.

“In 2008, The Cowboy Cauldron Company was formed. Two new sizes of fire pit and grill were added to the product line, as well as a collection of fantastic accessories to enhance the use of the Cauldron. These special fire pit and grills can now be found all over the country.

“Cowboy Cauldron fire pit and grills are still made the old-fashioned way, by hand and with a tremendous amount of passion. Each fire pit and grill is unique and individually inspected to ensure the highest amount of quality and enjoyment. In fact, Cowboy Cauldrons come with this guarantee: If you buy one and don’t love it, we’ll buy it back. Just ship it back within 60 days. Although, we’ve never actually had one of our fire pit and grills come back.”
