If you like the idea of hiking or horse packing from Canada to Mexico along some of the most beautiful countryside in the world you’ll want to support the Continental Divide Trail Alliance.
From their website: “Our Mission: To construct, manage and preserve a nonmotorized public backcountry trail along the full length of the Continental Divide from Canada to Mexico and to link its significant resources with the assistance of volunteers and public and private partnerships. To develop an appreciation of and enjoyment in America’s natural lands through education and the opportunity to experience the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.”
What a great idea! This effort started back in the 1960s and has continued to grow as it has ignited the public’s imagination. In 1995, Dr. Stephen Fausel of the Fausel Foundation founded the Continental Divide Trail Alliance (CDTA) a non-profit organization devoted to the completion, maintenance and protection of the CDT. About 70% of the 3,100 miles of trail have been marked and made passable but a lot of work still remains. There are all kinds of interesting volunteer opportunities to help finish this project that not only preserves an important part of our country but makes it accessible to many of us.
Kathy and I have been financial supporters for a while and we hope that you’ll join us in helping keep the trails available. For more information you can go to their website Continental Divide Trail Alliance
