Several years ago there was a National Geographic TV program about wild horses that followed stallion Cloud and his life. Millions of us were touched by the story and several programs continued to follow him.

Cloud’s life is now in danger and you can do something about it.

The unique Spanish wild horses of Cloud’s herd in Montana’s Pryor Mountains are in danger- the Bureau of Land Management is planning to remove nearly half the herd beginning around August 30th. Please contact Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar and ask that this massive removal be stopped. To reduce the herd to the numbers proposed by the BLM older horses would have to be removed, along with mares and foals. Older mares returned to the range would be given an experimental contraceptive drug.

The Cloud Foundation says “we support a limited removal of up to 20 one and two-year old horses but we must not allow BLM to bring this herd down the such low numbers and destroy their unique Spanish genetics. Nearly all mares returned to the range would be given a 22-month contraceptive drug, which is still being tested in the wild. This would gut the herd, leaving fewer than ten reproducing mares in the coming year.”
