Besides the Professional Bull Riding competitions that most fans see, in 2007 another series was added called the PBR World Cup.
The fourth PBR World Cup will be held April 16-18,2010 in the United States at the Las Vegas Thomas Mack Center.
From Wikipedia:
“The PBR World Cup is a team competition in which professional bull riders from 5 countries [Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the US] compete for their share of a $[200,000] prize . Each team fields 5 riders from their respective countries, each with their own team captain (who can either be a current or a former rider).
“The twenty-five riders compete in four rounds, two rounds each night, with all the contestants riding in each round, which means fans see 50 rides per night. The team captain can only select three scores for each round. Once all four rounds are complete, the team with the highest total score will be declared the winner.
“The first World Cup, held in 2007, took place at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia [won by Brazil].
“The second World Cup was held in 2008 at the Manuel Bernardo Aguirre Gymnasium in Chihuahua, Mexico [won by the US].
“The third World Cup was held in 2009 at the Parque do Peão in Barretos, Brazil [won by the US].”
From the PBR press release:
“The PBR is very proud and excited to bring the World Cup to the USA for the very first time. It has had record crowds in Australia, Mexico and Brazil. We expect the same results here in America,” stated Randy Bernard, CEO of the Professional Bull Riders. “This event has become bigger than all expectations and the fierce competition between Brazil and USA has grown. With the USA one up on Brazil, this year promises to be a fierce competition. It is very exciting for the entire city of Las Vegas to get behind this, along with the Academy of Country Music Awards. It promises to be one the best events we have produced in the USA.”
J.W. Hart (Marietta, Oklahoma.) it the 2010 coach. This is Hart’s third year as captain of Team USA. The coach selects 10 PBR bull riders and when after watching them at the regular PBR events selects the final five for the competition. It’s just added pressure for those 10 cowboys while they are doing their regular “job”.
Cody Snyder will coach the Canadians, Troy Dunn the Australians, Gerardo Venegas Mexico, and PBR legend Adriano Moraes will coach Brazil.
