The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service recently published the 2012 cash rent estimates for pasture and cropland. The estimates include data from more than 240,000 farms and ranches across the United States. Pasture cash rent rates across the country remained even compared to 2011 at $11/acre. However, there were considerable regional differences. The Corn Belt had the highest pasture rental rate at $33/acre, while the Mountain region was at $5/acre. The largest year-over-year increase in monthly pasture cash rent came in the Northeast where values increased 13.2 percent to $30/acre. Values actually declined in the Pacific and Southern Plains 10.7 and 8.5 percent, respectively.
